Bella Hadid talks about the huge controversy surrounding her Adidas ad campaign for a Munich Olympics shoe … and she says she didn’t do her homework.
The model responded to last week’s backlash in a lengthy statement posted Monday on social media … saying she had no idea the 1972 Munich Olympics included a famous tragedy where 11 Israeli athletes were taken hostage and murdered by Palestinian terrorists.
Bella explains that she had no knowledge of the historical connection between the 1972 Olympics and the Adidas shoe, adding … “I’m shocked, I’m disappointed, and I’m disappointed by the lack of sensitivity that went into this campaign “.
In addition, Bella says that she would never have participated in the advertising campaign if she had known about the Munich Massacre … and she says that her team or Adidas should have known. She admits…she should have done her own research too.
Bella adds… “While everyone’s intentions were to do something positive, and bring people together through art, the collective lack of understanding from all parties undermined the process.”
As you know … Adidas took a ton of heat for using Bella as the face of the retro sneaker … with the American Jewish Committee saying the shoe giant made a “blatant mistake” by choosing “a anti-Israel vocal model to remember these dark Olympics”.
Bella says she does not believe in hatred in any form, including anti-Semitism, and adds… “Palestine is not synonymous with terrorism and this campaign has inadvertently highlighted an event that does not represent who we are” .
